Michael H. Upright
His projects, which often take 3-4 years of research, have included documenting the travels of the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile, exploring the landscape of temporary fumigating enclosures known as exterminator tents, and investigating the Afro-Caribbean religion Santeria in the deep coastal South. His work has been published in numerous books, magazines and newspapers. Shooting exclusively in black and white using 35 mm Leica M-3 and M-6 cameras Michael Upright reveals the worlds of his subjects with an intimate and honest point-of-view. His current project include fly-fishermen in North America and NASCAR racing. Upright studied photography under Dave Reed, William Maguire, and Todd Walker. He attended the Penland School for the Arts in North Carolina and is a graduate of Florida International University. He was born in New York City and lives with his wife and family in Miami, Florida. |
