About the author of Simple Accent Reduction
Judy Young began teaching Accent Reduction and Speech
Improvement in 1991. She attended Columbia
College Chicago, where she studied communication and media arts, acting and creative writing. She also studied voice
for singing at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.
She went on to study acting and speech at the Ted Liss Acting
Studio in Chicago, now known as the Chicago Actor’s Studio.
There she received extensive training in acting and speech
from the late Ted Liss, then one of the top voice talents and speech instructors in the U.S.
Judy originally taught speech only to actors. As more and
more actors from other countries came to her for assistance in
reducing their accents, she realized that this speech technique
could be of great benefit to anyone who wished to speak
English better. She then refined and improved upon what she
learned in order to help people to speak English more clearly
and effectively.
Judy teaches Accent Reduction and Speech Improvement in
the Los Angeles area.
